Denise Liebel is the 2012 recipient of the Community Living Legacy Award.  The Legacy Award is presented to an individual whose outstanding service to people with disabilities and the community as a whole leaves a lasting legacy for generations to come. 

Denise Liebel is President/CEO of United Services.  Prior to joining United Services in October 2011, Denise served as the Executive Director of the Community Council of St. Charles County, a membership organization for nonprofits, businesses, and individuals interested in supporting a thriving region. Denise took the Community Council to new heights of success—under her leadership the organization doubled membership, tripled revenues, quadrupled staff size, and gained the trust and respect of community partners throughout the region.  Denise also worked with community leaders in efforts to build affordable housing and partnered with the St. Charles City-County Library District to build a meeting space for hundreds of nonprofit organizations.  Preceding the Council, Denise served as the County Operations Director for North East Community Action Corporation, which is a direct service provider to disadvantaged individuals and families in St. Charles County.  Serving the community in a variety of ways has always been an important part of her daily life.  Before being employed in the human service field, she was an educator and an outreach volunteer.  

Outside of her work at United Services, Denise stays involved in the region by serving on the boards of Heat Up St. Louis, the University of Missouri - St. Louis Nonprofit and Leadership Management Advisory, the Lindenwood Nonprofit Administration Advisory, the Summit Leadership Initiative for Youth, Athena St. Charles, and the St. Charles County Transit Authority.  In addition, Denise is a proud past participant of Community Living’s Professional Advisory Network.  She also volunteers as a writing coach with College Summit, a program that helps high school seniors from fragile communities write their personal statement in preparation for the pursuit of college. 

Denise lives in St. Charles with her husband, Scott.  Their family includes - son Patrick, his wife Jessica, and their son Fletcher; and daughter Elizabeth.
