Aimee

Aimee is the ultimate country music and St. Louis Cardinals fan. A self-professed romantic, Aimee has been to every Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert in St. Louis. As for the St. Louis Cardinals, Aimee makes it to at least two games every season. She even met Ozzie Smith when she was younger.

"I'd love to meet Albert Pujols now, though," says Aimee with a smile.

Aimee has been with Community Living for over 10 years. She lived at the agency's Respite Care Home for several years when she decided it was time to live in a new environment. She transferred to Woodstone, one of Community Living's residential homes for women. From the Respite Care Home to Woodstone, Aimee is more than satisfied with Community Living's facilities and services. "Community Living really cares about their clients," says Aimee. "The staff has helped me grow and become more independent."

Aimee loves her new home at Woodstone, and her housemates and staff at the facility love her. "We laugh a lot more now that she's here," says Theresa Voepel, support staff at Woodstone. "She's brightened up the house a lot. Aimee has a great sense of humor."

Aimee has a strong work ethic to accompany her happy-go-lucky attitude. Three days a week she goes to Lonning Center, one of Community Living's day program centers in the Support Services for Adults program. At the center, she enjoys hanging out with friends and participates in a variety of community-based activities. In addition, every Wednesday she volunteers through the center by reading to children at United Services.

"I love working with kids," says Aimee. "I think it's a great opportunity because the kids get to interact with someone in a wheelchair. They ask me a lot of questions."

In addition to her work through Lonning Center and staying on top of country music trends and baseball, Aimee keeps busy by participating in activities through Community Living's Recreation Services program, taking Aqua Ability physical therapy classes through Show-Me Aquatics at a local pool, and spending time with family, especially her nieces and nephew. When she visits her family, she also helps take care of Star, her young horse, and Dixie Dumpster, her three-legged dog that she adopted through the Humane Society.
